Ronaldo fined €18.8m over tax evasion

Christian Ronaldo, football superstar, has been fined for avoiding paying tax in Spain between 2010 and 2014. The five-time winner of the prestigious Ballon d'Or was playing for Real Madrid during that time. The prosecution say proceeds from image rights deals were channeled through foreign countries to avoid paying tax. Ronaldo accepted a deal in the court, paying an €18.8m ($29.9m) fine.

High Court rules against ATO, finding tax debts can be shifted between spouses

The case of  Commissioner of Taxation v Tomaras shows that tax debt can shifted between spouses during a divorce settlement. This means that the wealthier spouse could have to take on the debts of their former partner. 

Crime in NSW has been dropping for more than a decade. This is why

"NSW Police have recorded 11,330 fewer assaults, 7480 fewer robberies, burglaries are down 36,200 and car thefts have been reduced by 22,850 in the year to September 2018, compared to the same period in 2003."
