Can you be happily divorced?

No matter how you find yourself at the place of divorce it is possible to find happiness after the papers are signed. Here are three helpful tips to keep in mind during your separation so you can move to a place of happiness after divorce.

Divorce is most Australians’ reality. Whether it’s your own marriage, your parent’s marriage, a sibling’s or a good friend’s, we all have someone in our life who has gone through a divorce. Each experience of divorce is unique, with some finding peace in the decision to end their marriage, while others find themselves struggling to stay afloat in the messiness of breaking up.

No matter how you find yourself at the place of divorce it is possible to find happiness after the papers are signed.  Here are three helpful tips to keep in mind during your separation so you can move to a place of happiness after divorce…

  1. Redefine Your Relationship

Divorce is the end of a marriage, but it is also the start of a new relationship with your partner. For many, your former partner will now be known as your co-parent as you navigate raising your children together but a part. This perspective will help maintain a healthy and positive relationship as you focus on the future and not dwell in the past.

  1. Realise Revenge is Not the Answer

Divorces that are motivated by self-interest and revenge inevitably lead to drawn out, messy and toxic separations. Although it may release some anger and feel good in the moment, seeking to take revenge and exploit your partner is dangerous and harmful in the long-term. At every stage of a divorce it is important to keep a big picture perspective and see that an action made in spite does not bring stability and happiness. Revenge is not achieved through a bitter divorce and will only contribute to a strained and negative relationship down the line.

  1. Find the Right Legal Advice

Choosing the right law firm for you is imperative in finding happiness after divorce. The right lawyers will work with you for your unique needs. They will help you understand how to redefine your relationship with your former partner given your particular situation. The right lawyers will understand and remind you that revenge cannot be a motivator of divorce. With the right legal advice, you can enter into a new season with peace of mind and be happily divorced.
